Using Furuno Fishfinders to improve your catch

Target Individual Fish with Furuno Fish Finders The recent buzz in fish finder technology is the ability to see individual fish targets directly on screen. Statements that you can only see individual targets using new digital or high definition technology are simply incorrect. Furuno fish finders have been able to target individual fish for years! Furuno fish finders were born in commercial fisheries and have found more fish in the past 50+ years than any other manufacturer. Commercial fishermen rely on their fish finders to not only target fish schools and individual fish targets, but to show them the water depth and bottom conditions. It is amazing how much information you can garner from your fish finder when you learn how to interpret the screen. So how is this possible? Through the combination of a sensitive receiver, proper power output and advanced transducer technology. This results in highly detailed images of canyon walls, high spots, bottom habitat, bait schools and individual fish. To get to the root of how you can see individual fish targets, you need to understand the logic behind how a fish finder works. The transducer sends out a sound wave through the water that is reflected by objects in the water. The harder the object, the stronger the echo return and the darker the color on your display. For example, if you are fishing over a hard rocky bottom, the screen will show the bottom contour in a dark red as depicted above. In some instances, it will even display vegetation that is directly above the sea bed. The air bladder of fish is what returns the echo to the fish finder. So the larger the fish, the larger the air bladder and thus the larger the target on your screen. Bait fish show up on the screen as a ball, because the echo is being returned on their collective air bladders. The air bladder on a single bait fish is too insignificant to return an echo, but as a school, their air bladders can be picked up by the fish finder. Remember, the denser the target the darker the color will be on your display. There is a higher concentration of bait fish in the dark red area at top than in the green area at the bottom. So if targeting individual game fish or schools of bait fish is your goal, then follow the lead of the commercial fishermen who make their living by using Furuno fish finders to guide their way to the catch.
